We did another one!

Well it's been a madly busy month for the Mammy Makers, but we're not resting yet!  On top of half term, a holiday and a house move we managed to squeeze in another fair!  It was a lovely sunny day - just the kind of day for wandering around a craft fair looking at the beautiful and creative things made by talented people.  We loved it!   An uninterrupted day of sewing and chatting is always good, but meeting other makers just really perfects things.  We made some really good friends - one lady in particular (Hello Lena!) really took us under her wing and was happy to give us a few insider tips.  With her words of wisdom ringing in our ears and a whole day of making plans under our belts we're arranging our next move.  Look out for us - What Mammy Made Next - coming to a craft fair near you!

Well, we did it!  We made the things, we showed people the things, we sold people the things!  There was a lovely vintage feel about the craft fair - lots of handicraft stalls, handmade gifts and cakes and even some retro-style entertainment.  Even though it was our first ever fair we felt really comfortable and at home - took to it like ducks to water, you could say!  With lots to see and do and lots of other makers to talk to the day just flew over - and we're already looking forward to the next one!

Here's our beautiful stall...

All set up and ready to go - look at those beautiful tutus!

Making away night and day...

It's full steam ahead for the next fair now - we'll keep you posted with our progress!

Progress - at all costs!

Well nothing's happened on here since that first foray into the blogosphere - but there's a very good reason why.  We're doing our first craft fair!  After years of wandering around looking at beautiful things made by talented people we've finally become brave enough to enter the exciting (and slightly scary) world of craft selling!  You can imagine how busy things are at the moment.  Life would be much easier if everything paused as soon as you committed yourself to a project but unfortunately, that's just not going to happen.  Meals must still be made, clothes must still be washed, children must still be shouted at.  A Mammy's work is never done.

There's a different feel about working towards a craft fair, too.  For the first time, I can't just give up and buy something if the project doesn't work.  I can't cut corners to save time (milk carton fascinator, anyone?) and I can't just make one and stop there.  Making to sell demands precision, dedication and continuity.  And you can't rush into town and buy those either.

We're building up a stock of handmade pieces, each created with love and attention and our very own take on modern vintage style.  We're confident that the good people of Wallsend Memorial Hall will enjoy them - fingers crossed we're right!  We'll be back with pictures to let you know how it goes...

Another - so soon?

Another one in the same day.  Start as you mean to go on, and all that!  Anyway, I thought nothing could be better than a flurry of pretty pictures to show you what we've been up to before we had this blog.  So here we go - some pretty pieces to warm us up...

Handbags hand-made from vintage books...

Artfully covered frames...

Pretty aprons for your pretty little bakers...

Beautiful hand-made felt flower brooches and rings...

Sugar flowers to adorn your cakes....

Freehand machine embroidery...

Snuggly blankets...

Bespoke handmade tutu's, for the little princess in your life!

So there you go.  Proof that we are busy, busy, busy!  And we're still making, so keep your eyes peeled for more makes in the next few days...

The First Post!

Well, here we are.

The first post in our spanking new blog.  So sparkling you'll have to squint.  So squeaky you'll want to dig out your sunglasses.  So new that the ink hasn't dried yet.  You get the idea.

Anyway - this is it!  The What Mammy Made Next blog dedicated to showing and telling everything we've been up to.  We'll show you what we've made and where we've been.  Hope you enjoy it!
